In 1983 engineering prodigy, Bill Dudleston, and co-founder, Jacob Albright AKA “The Stubborn Dutch Craftsman”, who set the cabinetry standards that LEGACY still lives up to today, began their remarkable quest to develop the world’s finest loudspeakers. A rich background of physics and an uncanny grasp of acoustic modelling, combined with good old-fashioned craftsmanship led the team to first produce the renowned Legacy-1. Since that time, the Legacy-1 has become a classic in the true sense of the term and Legacy has produced a number of other legendary models as the Aeris, the Focus and the Whisper systems, just to name a few. It is therefore no coincidence that multi-Grammy award-winning producers Rick Rubin, Antonio “L.A.” Reid, and renowned mastering engineer, Herb Powers, have utilized and publicly touted the Legacy designs as assisting in producing artists Sheryl Crowe, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mariah Cary, and Usher. Likewise it is no surprise that re-mastering engineer Steve Hoffman has utilized the Legacy speakers on re-issues of Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole.
In an ideal world you would hear the music exactly as it was intended to be heard. But rooms are not perfect and resonances play havoc below 500 Hz. The Legacy Wavelet processor will analyze your room and make the calculations to reduce resonant energy as late as 40msecs. The improvement in tonal balance and pitch definition is not subtle. While using the Wavelet, analog devotees can take advantage of balanced XLR or unbalanced RCA inputs without concern of digital artifacts. An apodizing circuit corrects for the pre-ringing that is native to CODECs. Wavelet has adequate headroom to handle these higher level signals while functioning as a crossover and compensating for room resonances. Wavelet processes at 56 bits of depth in a domain more than one trillion times finer in resolution than that of a standard CD. The Wavelet is by design upgradable. The unit can download firmware updates directly from the internet. The Legacy Wavelaunch processor is at the heart of many Legacy systems. This powerful digital signal processor features high quality AD/DA conversion and multiple inputs and outputs and therefore is capable of integrating subwoofers and surround speakers. It is used as the crossover in the award winning Aeris system, and provides parametric and graphic EQ for individual driver sections as well as the entire speaker. It runs special Legacy algorithms which have been developed to offer configuration options and to maximize the performance of Legacy speaker systems.
